An Ordinary Need, An Extraordinary Moment

Yesterday, our upstairs neighbors woke up to 52° in their condo. Their heat wasn’t working, so they called to see if my husband could fix it. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to, so we went out searching for a space heater. Here in Florida, when temperatures drop into the 30s, stores sell out quickly.

My husband has a broken foot that was becoming very achy from going in and out of stores, so I prayed a very specific prayer—that Jesus would allow us to find a space heater, and that it would show our neighbor how much God loves him personally and answers prayers.

Our neighbor is 91 years old and has never wanted to hear about God. His wife believes, but he always tries to shut me down whenever I bring up our Lord. Praise God, we finally found a space heater and brought it up to them. As my dear 91-year-old friend sat in his chair wrapped in blankets, I got face-to-face with him and told him how much Jesus loves him. I shared that I had prayed specifically that Jesus would help us find a heater to show him how much God cares and answers prayers.

You see, my friend doesn’t believe in prayer or my “crazy religion.” Over the years, I’ve shared with him, and he has boldly told me he will never believe. But yesterday, I was able to tell him that we have more years behind us than ahead of us, and that I want him in heaven with me. In the past, when I’ve shared, he shuts me down—but not yesterday. His wife chimed in and said he’ll never believe. He may continue to mock me, but God’s Word never returns void.

Afterward, we were able to bring him a hot meal and one of his favorite desserts. It may not sound like much, but it was love in action—all glory to God. I believe for my neighbor’s salvation, and that I will spend all eternity with him.

A space heater may seem ordinary, but in God’s hands, it became a message.
The greater gift was sharing Jesus, though the heartfelt gift was the heater.
Our reward was living out the Golden Rule ❤️
